Work rarely slows down inside a team. It slows down at the seams, where one team hands something to another and context goes missing.
A handoff is a product
Treat the handoff itself as something you deliver. It has a customer (the next team), a standard, and an owner who checks it arrived.
The five-line checklist
What is done, and what is not
Who owns it now, by name
The deadline, and what happens if it slips
Where the files and history live
Who to ask with questions this week
Five lines, written every time. It takes three minutes and saves days of back-and-forth.
Check it once a month
Pick three recent handoffs and ask the receiving team how they went. Fix the one thing that keeps coming up.
